19 August 2010 Dear Dr Kavin, On the 20 of January I was involved in a car accident in Green point /Cape Town and afterwards brought into your hospital. There you were the surgeon who was taken care for me. You operated me twice; firstly among other things at my pancreas; later on at an entrails enclosure. During about nine weeks I was nursed in the intensive care and daily you gave me good hope for recovering. In consequence of the treatment by you and your staff I could stay alive! Again I will express my sincere thanks to you all! My flight back to the Netherlands was quite good; I was growled dull by the medications and my partner, Wim Mikx, helped me through all the steps of the long travel. Arriving at home, the send me immediately into the Universal Hospital in Groningen because the house- doctor did not trust my condition. In the hospital they made the diagnose of abscess in my abdomen. Here that nursed me for eight days. Afterwards I was still three times in the same hospital for several days, because there was over and over cling in my entrails. To the end they gave me magnesium pills and that stopped the problems until now I’m using those pills. Now after already two months, I am climbing upwards to a better health; I make short walks with my partner and we are planning a short holidays in the south of France during the first week in October. My food taste fine the last weeks and so I am growing in weight from 49Kil’s in the end of March to 57 Kilos now. (Before the accident my weight was 63kilo’s). Unfortunately I suffer a lot of a disequilibrium. The surgeon in the hospital seeks the cause in the long term using of antibiotics and for that reason he send me now an otologist and a neurologist. Ending this letter by repeating thank you and your staff and with. Friendly greetings!

I wish to express my deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to Dr B Kavin for improving my health. For many years I have been admitted to hospital for 3 to 4 days at a time suffering from recurring Asthma attacks. I have been subjected to various drips and medication to ease the effects of the Asthma with symptoms varying from shortage of breath, a tight feeling in my chest, boasts of uncontrollable coughing and infection of my lungs. My condition had deteriorated that it started to affect my work attendance. Some years I no longer had any sick leave left and had to take annual leave to compensate. I kept feeling as if I was out of control and I did not have the power to change the vicious cycle. I develop extreme heartburn which resulted in a gall bladder removal in March this year. I was referred to Dr Kavin for a gall bladder removal. Dr Kavin prescribed the removal of the gall bladder and to do a Nissan procedure. Since having the Nissan procedure I have not had an Asthma attack, I no longer have the heartburn, my breathing and overall health is much improved and as a bonus I have lost about 4 kilos! I once again would like to thank you and your staff for helping me and making a difference in my health and my life. I wish you all the best and I would like to advice other Asthma sufferers to get this procedure if they are advised to have it done. Kindly regards Mrs I Pillay

Dear Dr Kavin, You probably won’t remember me but I was the lady with the leaking appendix which led to peritonitis and you removed both my appendix and my Gallbladder ( which had some stones). You also picked up when you did a gastroscopy prior to the operation, that I had a big Hiatus Hernia. Well, I went on to medication, mostly Lancap and Gaviscon as a backup, for my permanent reflux and was on this for most of the two years ( it was July 2012) since I had the operation. The last two months my husband and I have been following the, I know, very controversial Banting diet with some interesting results and I thought to give you some feedback. My husband’s blood pressure has come right down and is a very good normal now, and I don’t need medication for reflux and acidity which is marvellous! We have also obviously lost a good bit of weight as well – 6 kg each – which was the original aim. Anyway , thank you again for getting me back on my feet a couple of years back and I am feeling better than ever now! Kind regards,
Annamie

Dear Dr Kavin I am a writer and yet I struggle with words to thank you for saving our daughter Andrea's life. She is a pickle, our first born. There have been several health scenes with her recently and I believe diagnosing ulcerative colitis explains so much. Many of the problems she has faced may connected to this disease – undetected until now. It has been very hard to see our daughter go to live and work so far away. Then to learn she was so desperately ill was awful. It is Andrea who stopped me jumping immediately on a plane. And she, as you probably realise, is a young woman who knows her mind. But wewill come and when we do I hope that we will meet. I can never say a big enough thank you to you for your great skill and care of her. We love her so much. If you ever come to visit England our home is yours. You have brought her through this. You really are an incredible doctor.

As one human being to another – how does one begin to thank a person who has saved the life of a precious family member, the patriarch of our family – our beloved father? It is simply impossible. There are no words… In our desperate time of need, with our backs to the wall, and all odds stacked against us, we handed over our 90-year old father, Albert Allen into your extremely capable hands. You performed your magic in the operating theatre and tenaciously nurtured him back to good health before our very eyes – never giving up on him, while constantly instilling confidence and belief in his recovery when all hope was lost. Your compassion and care was absolutely unsurpassable. Our family truly witnessed a modern-day miracle. Our gratitude and appreciation has earned you a special place in our hearts. You will always have a friend in the Allen family. We wish you good health, happiness and everything of the best for the future. Our warmest regards,
